Golden Halo Awards

This prestigious award has been bestowed upon some of America's most prominent citizens including Sybil Brand. The President of the Southern California Motion Picture Council, Randal Malone and the legendary movie star Margaret O'Brien presented Carmelita Pittman the honor in recognition for her outstanding contribution to humanity. Carmelita, a multi-dimensional artist was in good company with legendary film star Stella Stevens, who received The Golden Halo Lifetime Achievement Award. The Golden Halo Philanthropist Award was presented to Dr. Sheila Calhoun and the Golden Halo Entertainer of the Year Award went to K. B. Solomon, one of the more sought after opera singers in Los Angeles. Vladek Juszkiewicz received the Golden Halo Award for his contribution to the film industry.

Also making presentations were Jarvee Hutcherson, President of Multi-cultural Motion Picture Association who gave Ms. Pittman a large bouquet of roses, and an impromptu speech by April Sutton and the Pink Lady a.k.a. Jackie Goldberg who was the Mother of the Year 2009 at the Annual Rose Variety Arts Show. The Southern California Motion Picture Council was founded by Linda Burke May 1, 1936. During that time Ms Burke lobbied Congress to reduce the admission of movie tickets for children and got it passed, and it remains in effect today. SCMC has always stood for keeping classic Hollywood alive and has always presented awards with legendary stars. Margaret O’ Brien, an Oscar winner whose name has been honored four times on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Donna Martel known for her western movies were responsible for presenting Stella Stevens with her Golden Halo Lifetime Achievement Award. This philanthropic organization also has ventured into worthy causes. It also promotes high standards in films which seek family values and morality. Exemplary of these high standards was Kristian Kidd , twelve of age who co-hosted the event wearing a black suit and wide brim hat to match. A host of stars and luminaries were present at the event. Amongst those seen in the audience were Rosemarie, the original Lollipop Munchkins Jerry & Elizabeth Maren of the Wizard of Oz (Elizabeth even wore red shoes on her little feet),Allison Angren of “Little House on the Prairie”, Joe Cassini, and Gloria Pall. Southern California Motion Picture Council officers Randal Malone, Elizabeth Guardino, Isabel Paulson, Bee Beyer, Michael Schwibs, Virginia Freburg, and board members Esther Aboud, Dr. Sheila Calhoun, Carol Berry, Ron Barnes, were represented. Some of the board members of The Rose Breast Cancer Society in attendance included Gloria Berlin, author of “Michael Jackson, In Search of Neverland”, Traude Winik, Honorary members Senior Senator Bettio and Lady Java. The event was held in Studio City at the newly remodeled Sportsman’s Lodge which is composed of a series of structures including ballrooms, meeting rooms, a restaurant amidst spacious landscaping composed of waterfalls, lakes, trees and flowers. Pete Allman- More Than The Man On The Scene! by Suellen Fry

 Times are hard for everyone. I’m a freelance writer and I can tell you first hand about these rough times. The jobs are scarce and those offered on Craig’s List are few and far between. This week has been exceptionally difficult for me. I have found myself sleeping more and not wanting to get out of bed. After all, what is there to look forward to? I have replied to over 100 ads on Craig’s List and still come up empty handed.

And just when I think I can’t laugh or even crack a smile, I receive a phone call from my good friend Pete Allman. Although we have never technically met, I consider Pete to be my friend. I have been working with him since the summer and have had many pleasant conversations over the phone. While I sit here in my small mountain town with my 11 year old son, and a house full of pets, Pete lives on the other side of the U.S. in LA boldly managing his own life. While I’m growing crops and farming the land,Pete’s busy interviewing celebrities in a city that never sleeps. He also travels to Las Vegas many times to meet with these famous movie stars.

Pete has more courage and more faith than anyone I know. He has faced more challenges in these past few months and he still has a smile on his face. While I attended my own pity party, Pete was moving on to his next gig with endurance and stride. Oh, and by the way-I was the only one at my own party. It was quite boring in fact. I decided to leave the party and talk to my friend Pete. After a few minutes I was actually laughing and feeling better than I had all week long. I even manged to crack a joke.

I don’t think Pete was put in my path by mistake. I believe in divine intervention and I thank God for intervening on my behalf. If you haven’t met Pete Allman yet, and you live in the LA or Las Vegas areas-you’re truly missing out on a real person with a genuine heart. With so many Hollywood people on the scene, sometimes it’s refreshing to talk to a real person. So this article is for you Pete! Thanks for being you! Thanks for giving me the courage I needed tonight to get off my behind and leave my pity party.

It isn’t you that is fortunate to be able to meet all these famous people-it is they that should feel blessed to have the chance to meet you!

Mahe – Fabulous Cuisine and Beautiful People By Pete Allman

There are times when all of us need to get away to the ocean, especially when you don’t live there. It is also an awe inspiring experience in dining, when you’re at the right spot.

One eatery that’s 9 months old, located in Dana Point, California is Mahe-located at 24961 Dana Point Harbor Drive. Mahe is the focal point for people to gather and have a cocktail or savor some of the most outstanding seafood and sushi available on the west coast.

I learned about this restaurant from Mat Molina, the VIP host and service attendee, who is also one the up and coming public relations specialist finishing up at Chapman College. Mat’s dynamic personality is what helps patrons return to Mahe as their place to dine and have good conversation. In fact, I met Mat at The Sundance Film Festival in Parker, Utah.

When I arrived at Mahe, there was an hour wait. I was greeted by Toby Reece the owner; and his manager Bill Senteno. They both informed me that I would have a lot of fun and they were right. Mat, escorted me to the cocktail area where I proceeded to listen to some in-the-pocket folk music and the watch the X-Games on their Plasma Screens.

In this contemporary setting, John Ford; an agent for baseball players introduced himself to me. Before I knew it, I absorbed a lot of information about baseball. So, the evening went by relatively fast.

Within a short time I was brought to the sushi dining area where I explored the Asian culture. The sushi special included spicy tuna, cucumber, avocado, tempura, asparagus with yellowtail iponzu and green onions for $15.00. It was oh, so good. Mahe has four separate dining areas which include the Tapon yuke dining room (were the chefs themselves perform quite a show), the sushi bar, outside patio dining and inside dining.

There’s also the cocktail lounge where patrons dine and catch the great entertainment that’s provided on the weekends. Mahe’s happy hour is 4:30 to 6:30 seven days a week, were there’s never a dull moment. By now, I’m sure anyone desiring seafood will consider Mahe. My culinary journey has taken me throughout the United States.

I would highly recommend this establishment. Concerning my culinary trip here, I had Mat serve a plate of fresh grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce and steamed string beans with carrots. Executive Chef Nat Garthwheap, orginally from Montana, oversees the quality of food and how it’s prepared. What’s not to like about Mahe? Fabulous cuisine and beautiful people.

It’s all there for you and your family. On the weekends try their lunch. Now, one last detail. Try their Crème Brule with blueberries. That’s a refreshing way to please your sweet tooth. C.S.N. rates Mahe on a scale of 1-10… a 10. Bingo!
