Buffalo Jim Barrier, known for his colorful wrestling show is inviting the public to join him every Friday evening at 11 o'clock on Channel 48. Through the years as Las Vegas developed Jim Barrier has been part of that history. His appearances at various charity events have won him various awards. However, he has also been the victim as the underdog in his battle against the Crazy Horse Gentlemen's Club. As owner of Auto and Marine Electric Jim Barrier feels he has every right to stay at his location which is next to the Crazy Horse. That's not the way the owners of the Crazy Horse see it.

They would like to see the long bearded big Buffalo Jim disappear. That is his business. They simply want to expand their business. Barrier is a hard working business man who wants to see everyone profit fairly. Unfortunately greed overtakes the majority of people, unless they put themselves in check. Can't we all just get along boys?

Pete Allman's Celebrity Scene News March 19, 2002

The late Frank Sinatra was truly a man who goes out of his way to help people. He wasn't the type of person who did it for prestige, he simply did what he thought was right for his fellow human being.

Francis Albert Sinatra, Mel Haber, and Mel Kaiser

I recently stayed at the Ingleside Inn where many celebrities have stayed including Mr. Sinatra. In talking with Mel Haber the gentleman who owns the Inn, his words about Mr. Sinatra was simply that he was an awe of him and that indeed he was a very loyal and generous man. "Mr Sinatra had his pre wedding party at Melvyns. He would often have a big dinner party with his pals. He would request a long table to be placed in the middle of the restaurant. During those days Mr. Sinatra guests where Jimmy Van Husen a famous song writer and Leo Durocher the manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers among other businessmen" stated Haber.

Francis Albert Sinatra often referred to as Chairman of the Board according to actor and legendary singer Herb Jefferies was a man who had a short fuse "He could blow up in a minute, yet he had a heart of gold. Frank and I knew each other for 30 years. Shall we say that when ever I would speak with Frank I wouldn't say I would disagree with you instead I would say to Frank I don't see it that way that way it was from my point of view not his. Their will never be another Sinatra he was one of a kind" stated Jeffries.

A couple weeks ago on the Las Vegan Report on KDWN I asked a trivia question about Mr. Sinatra. Actually it involved Frank, Sammy and Dean. The question was about the Paradise Spa. In any event the Spa was a hang out for all three gentleman and their girlfriends at the time. Now the Paradise Spa which has been closed for years is the home of Ali Baba Restaurant and Night Club. Believe it or not some of the old timers still stop by there.

Referring back to Palm Springs and the Ingleside Inn. The Inn is the official historical site in Palm Springs. Robin Leach of the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous named it one of the ten best. I must confess the Ingleside Inn is a very rustic and romantic place to stay it is the best kept secret in Palm Springs. For over 60 years the Inn guest registers read from notables from the world of opera, show business, finance, and diplomacy. In fact, Greta Garbo slept there, to such stars of today as Ellen Degeneres, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Lily Tomlin.

Cocktail Lounge in Melvyns

Each of the 30 rooms and villas at the Inn are unique and well appointed with antique furniture, including some rooms with fireplaces and personalized match boxes. Therefore, if you need to make a quick getaway especially a romantic getaway, consider the Ingleside Inn. Remember, there are many resorts in the United States but none quite as rustic and romantic as the Inn. Oh, by the way after dinner at Melvyns, consider a drink in the cocktail lounge. There are often times big name entertainers who stop by to sing a tune. For more information call the Ingleside Inn at 1.800.772.6655 or visit their website www.inglesideinn.com

Herb and Savanna Jeffries

How does one keep alert and look 60 when they are 90? According to international balladeer Herb Jeffries it is just a matter of meditation and treating your body right. "For the last 57 years I've meditated half hour in the morning and a half hour in the evening. I also exercise lightly." stated Jeffries. Jeffries known for his roles in Hawaii 5-O and the Virginian was the first black cowboy to star on westerns he also sold over 13 million records with his signature song Flamingo with 10 gold records and 2 platinum records. Jeffries has released his own CD entitled "The Best Years of My Life". It's available at www.herbjeffries.com.

Tony Orlando

Tony Orlando, is with out question the master of his art. He is genuine and truly loves his audience I applaud Tony for his contribution in helping raise money for the 911 victims of New York. Tony has a new CD available in which all the monies go to the 911 victims of New York City. If you would like to celebrate life with Tony, Tie a Yellow Ribbon around the Old Oak Tree or Sweet Gypsy Rose, stop by any Saturday through Thursday at the Golden Nugget showroom. It is a most inspirational show and you will love The Lefty Brothers his backup band which has been together for over 20 years. Be sure to catch Tony's new movie entitled Waken Up in Reno a Miramax release. It stars Natasha Richardson, Billy Bob Thornton, Patrick Swayze, Charlize Theron, and Mr. Tony Orlando. This flick is a comedy which deals with a couple that go to see Tony in concert. "It's a big little movie" states Tony.

Shaquille O'Neal

Shaquille O'Neal announced last week at the MGM Grand that he will host a series of comedy roasts to raise money for the non profit organizations such as KIDZ Education Experience Program. KEEP is a non profit organization which will provide the best most innovative mechanism to help direct inner city youth in the quest to gain a collage degree with minimal or no financial burdens. Award shows are spreading up all over the place little ones, big ones, and international awards shows. And now Channel 35, KYRK the new kid on the block has had their own award show. The difference however is that they help the little people. One of 40 stations owned and operated by Mako Communications Channel 35 provides more local programming to the community then any of the other stations in Las Vegas.

Which brings me to the point of the KYRK Channel 35 Awards Banquet held at Amlee Gourmet last Saturday. It was a fun night especially for our former Lieutenant Governor Lonnie Hammergren, who incidentally is one of the great neurosurgeons of our time.

Audie Morrow the national engineer for Mako Communications announced the awards for the evening starting with Ron Knight and his lovely Co-Host Kimberly, who host Out of Control, a late night weekly show discussing people's sexual preferences among other things. Well you should have seen some of those T.V. clips

The biggest laugh was the award Ron received showing the hips of peanut butter. I will let you imagine the rest check the cup out that Ron is holding in the picture. Ron by the way is also performing at the HOP on Friday nights. Another interesting award had gone to Jere Morrisey and Minnie Coston who received a certificate of appreciation from Bobbie Morrow, the Sales Manager of KYRK. Morrisey is a retired real-estate broker who is publishing a book on cooking and flying. Morrisey attends many of the T.V. Tapings at KYRK, bringing some of his famous chili dishes for tasting. It is somewhat like having a big happy family, Folks who have no premonition, who are down to earth. There were many other awards especially those who were presented with a shovel. That's for people who talk a lot but don't always get the job done. Oh well enough already.

Steven Lee the proprietor of Amlee Gourmet, who is also known for his creative cooking said he enjoys playing host to award shows. Many of the political figures of our community attend fund raisers at his restaurant. The unique point about Steven is his talents as a junket host. Here is a man who knows some of the wealthiest gamblers in Asia. Steven is helping the economy of Las Vegas. Congratulations Steven

What is it like to separate your spirit from your mind? That is a very good question which is unanswered by those who are not willing to make changes in their lives. Chris Liles, world renowned sculpture and artist who was mentioned in last weeks column is one of those rare individuals who can attest to the productivity of accessing and knowing your inner being. According to Liles, gut instinct is your spirit which will never fail you.
If you can use that in your daily living, keeping all that is around you positive, there is nothing you can't accomplish. Perhaps that is why some people can accomplish in 15 minutes what it takes others to accomplish in 7 years. I didn't talk about focusing and how to go about this. However, if you would like a copy of the manuscript entitled Accessing and Knowing Your Inner Being, mail your request to CSN News 2700 State Street suite B2 Las Vegas, NV. 89109. There will be no charge. This is a gift for those who want fuller communication with life.

The Scintas, the family entertainment show which includes comedy, and anything from Joe Cocker to, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, and Frank Sinatra has taken Las Vegas by storm. The Scintas are enjoying a tremendous success in Las Vegas. Frank Scinta said the group has been touring for 20 years before they arrived in Las Vegas. The Scintas first started at the Las Vegas Hilton's Night Club for an unlimited engagement then moving to the Masquerade Showroom at the Rio. Each one of the Scintas enjoys Las Vegas and believes it is a great community for raising a family. Many celebrities frequent their show including up and coming artist. Antonio Mecheri, a new world recording artist signed to Music Masters was very touched by the Scintas sincerity. "I was moved by the tribute that Frankie and his sister sang in honor to our American Soldiers and their families; it brought tears to my eyes."

A congratulation is the appropriate way to thank Absolute Boxing and Fitness Gym for providing young people a way to keep active in a positive manner. The Gym which open Friday, February the 15th is the own and operated by Johnny McClain. It is also the home of Laila Ali the daughter of Muhammad Ali who appeared at the opening. Absolute Boxing and Fitness Gym is also the home of Absolute Entertainment which promotes boxing events such as the Bell Griffin and Kline Smith on February the 17th .

Pete Allman's Celebrity Scene News February 6, 2002

Hotel Del Coronado

Hotel Del Coronado, situated along 26 oceanfront acres on Coronado Island is a paradise by itself and considered one of the world's most beautiful resorts by the Las Angeles Magazine and Travel Leisure Magazine. Celebrity Scene News rates the Del Coronado as one of the top 10 resorts in the world as well as USA Today. A national historic landmark the 114 year old resort has a history which dates back to 1889 when US Presidents and Movie Stars have used it as a getaway to enjoy its Victorian architecture and romantic settings.
In 1988 I had the pleasure of celebrating its 100th birthday "Centennial Celebration", with over 50 stars of stage and screen. It was a remarkable journey into the past, interviewing legends the late Glen Ford, Debbie Reynolds, and Tony Curtis, who I bump into at many functions in Las Vegas. The late Van Johnson adored The Dell as it is commonly referred to. Donald O' Connor, Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck, and Connie Stevens where just a few of the celebrities I was able to chat with including many music stars such as Marilyn McCoo, and Billy Davis Jr. Now in 2002 I had a chance to enjoy the new Del Coronado Hotel which has completed 55 Million dollar restoration program, including two new restaurants, the Sheerwater and the Prince of Wales, a shopping mall, and guest rooms, which brings me to our journey at the Prince of Wales Restaurant. There I met Chef Michael Quigley along with Wine Stewart, Jason Bernardo, two very charming gentlemen, who enjoy the passion of creating food and selecting wine. My suggestion when dinning at the Prince of Wales is to take a culinary journey by trying the chefs tasting menu. Here is what $95.00 will do for your taste buds. Let's begin with Garlic Soup perfumed with Truffle and a glass Hugel Gewurztraminer, Alsace 2000, next, Quinoa, Salsify, and Watercress Cream, and a glass of Hill of Content "Benjamins Blend", Western Australia 2000. The main outré consist of Breast of Pheasant with Braised Leeks, and Apricot Gastric, accompanied with a glass of Robert Stemmler Pinot, Sonoma Country, 1998. Our culinary journey ends with Laguiole Poached Pear with a glass of Hill of Content "Old Vines Grenache - Shiraz", South Australia, 2000. Wait just a moment. For dessert we were served Lemon Vacherin, which is Citrus Sorbet, accompanied with a glass of Bonny Doon "Vin de Glaciere" Muscat, Nappa Valley, 1999. My guest for the evening included world famous artist and sculpture Chris Liles, Hotelier Bill Mincey, and Michelle Hodo, Inventor Dennis Bartelmo, and Justin Fil. All where delighted with our culinary journey. Incidentally the Prince of Wales Restaurant is as good as any five star restaurants I have dined in. I think you will find the prices quite reasonable with an ocean dinning view that is breathtaking.

"Her Spirit Soars"

Jamie Fox says that Las Vegas is a "happening place". The talented comedian and actor should know, he bought a home on Sunrise Mountain a few years ago. Recently at his birthday bash at Club Seven, some cute birdies (Ladies) said Fox had no problem with self esteem. Fox has a tendency to be a bit arrogant at times. We all have to have some type of ego to handle showbiz. This business will cut you down to a mustard seed. So I suppose you ladies will forgive Mr. Fox for being arrogant at times.

Pete Allman with Jamie Fox

Buck McNeely shown in this column with actor Peter Breck, said attending NATPE (National Association of Television Producers and Executives), was very successful for his company. "Although the attendance was down this year, there were a lot of serious buyers attending the market. My show the Outdoorsmen is in over 218 markets including my favorite place, Las Vegas."

Jennifer Janesko Paints Model at Chameleon Studios Party

Pete Allman listens intently to Chazz Palminteri

Cheryl Irwin, CEO of Irwin Productions introduced me to several stellar celebrities at her Chameleon Studios. Tucker Tooley, Producer of Poolhall Junkies, and one of the all-time great actors, Chazz Palminteri and Michael Rosenbaum along with Mars Callahan all starred with Christopher Walken in Poolhall Junkies. Palminteri, a very subdued individual, flat out told me that he “doesn’t gamble and doesn’t care to talk about politics,” i.e., the struggle of the Screen Actors Guild or the thousands of screen actors out of work. He did however, give a thumbs up to Cine Vegas Film Festival.
Among other celebrities who attended the Cine Vegas Film Festival events were Gianni Russo, Rich Little, Clint Holmes, Robin Leach, Darren Romeo, Lance Burton, Earl Turner, Charo, Sigfried and Kenny Kerr Superstars who attended the festival and also played at the Palms Hotel and Casino in the Black Jack tournament include Dustin Hoffman, Elliot Gould, and Joey Villa. Gianni V. Russo who we remember owning the State Street Restaurant and Night Club has been quite active in films, from the The God Father to films ranging from $50 Million and up. A resident of Las Vegas, and LA, Russo fore sees the motion picture industry having a second base here. His overall view of the Cinevegas Film Feastival was that could become famous as the Cannes Film Feastival.

Gianni V. Russo, right shows Pete Allman how to be a tough guy.

Local Dining Spots

Just about 35 minutes from downtown Las Vegas, you can make a quick getaway to the Hacienda Hotel and Casino, formerly the Gold Strike Inn. It is located just outside of Boulder City on Highway 93; I came across one of the best-kept secrets in the state. It’s the Hacienda Steak House located tucked away east of the entrance of the Hotel. An added attraction is the private waiting room where cocktails are served. The Hacienda has a friendly staff with none of that ‘stuffy attitude.’ Karen Ceba, the restaurant Manager is the most hospitable and Colleen, my waitress was very knowledgeable with the menu. If you’re looking for a good steak, delicious chicken, and tableside dining with items such as, spinach salad or Caesar’s salad, then the Hacienda Steak House is the place to go. For reservations call (702) 293-5000.
Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant

I recently met recording artist, Negest “Nikki” Tsegaye at the Meskerem Restaurant, which specializes in Ethiopian cuisine. It is located in the Sumerset Shopping Center. She was there ordering Ethiopian cuisine that is very spicy, but healthy. In addition to talking about her career, she recommended that I try the Vegetable Delight; a platter served with ethy-pita bread where collard greens, cabbage, salad green beans and a red-split lentil peas are served with fish.

The custom is to use the pita bread to pick up the vegetables, when eating this delicious cultural dish. During our conversation, Nikki informed me that there are also lamb, chicken and meat dishes, which range from $7.00 to $10.00. Actually, when you think about it, $50 would feed six to ten people. It certainly an economical way to dine. The restaurant is open from 11:00am to 4:00am daily, (702) 732-1002 Monday through Sunday. Call Tesfaye Armide, the Owner, and tell them Pete sent you.
Incidentally, Nikki has a new CD that she’s working on, which will be eleased internationally on a major label. Currently you can pick up her CD at the Meskerem Market, called Nikki Songs – (Endetamanahiut) on E. Afrik Entertainment.

Remember to check out KDWN 720 AM on your dial, Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s at 1:00pm and for great show tickets call 385-7212 or 385-7213. Till then smile and remember the mark of greatness is truly upon you.

Mike Tyson

It seems that boxing is getting its dose of bad public relations with the likes of Mike Tyson. Tyson who said he was pushed by one of Lennox Lewis's camp in a recent press conference ended up throwing a punch and missing Lewis. It ended up in a tumble with Tyson biting Lennox Lewis's leg. It's a bit more complicated then what we have told you. The bottom line to this story however is that Tyson will probably find out the hard way, if the Nevada Athletic Commission denies his license to fight in Nevada. "The heck with how much money Tyson brings to Las Vegas. It is not worth the aggravation" stated a group of local businessmen. Somehow a little bird told me that's not the way it will end up for Tyson.

Showtime Championship Boxing in conjunction with Bally's Hotel and Top Rank Boxing will present a gentleman's fight card on March the 16th at Bally's Event Center. Former W.B.O. welterweight champion and the current W.B.O. number one junior middleweight contender Daniel Santos will move up in weight to face former world champion and current W.B.O. number two contender Ramon Luis "Yori Boy" Campas for the vacant JR. middleweight title.

Daniel Santos with Ramon Luis "Yori Boy" Campas and Antonio Diaz

Campas, 30 has fought 79 fights with 4 loses and 67 KO's. He is a gentleman in and out of the ring. Daniel Santos, 26 has 24 fights to his credit with 2 loses, 1 draw, and 19 KO's. There won't be any running and holding in this championship bout. This fight alone is worth the ticket prices which start at $50.00. Also included on the card is W.B.O. number 1 welterweight contender Antonio Margarito. At 23 years of age young Margarito has 25 fights to his credit with 3 loses, 1 N.C., and 17 KO's. Margarito will face Antonio Diaz, 25 who has a record of 37 fights, 3 loses, and 27 KO's. Diaz said his last championship fight with Shane Mosley taught him to change his boxing style. "Before, I just came at you with everything. Now I box more. I feel I have more speed moving the head more"stated Diaz. The fight card will broadcast at 10:00PM EST. and PST.

Don't forget to check out Chinese New Year at New York New York. The celebration takes place February the 15th at 8:30pm on the Brooklyn Bridge. The fun will start with a dragon parade, dancers, music, and drinks. The Lion Dance will be preformed chasing away the evil spirits. The Dragon Dance also to be preformed brings happiness, health, and good luck for the rest of the year. Who knows maybe you will be one of the jackpot winners that evening.

Tom Cruise with Penelope Cruz. Siegfried and Roy with Atlas.

Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz slipped into the Mirage Showroom to visit Siegfried and Roy backstage. Cruise was delighted when he fed Atlas their 5 year old Siberian Tiger. When asked if the super stars of magic would retire Roy stated "We will continue to fulfill peoples dreams as long as our fans keep coming to our shows"

Dream Boulevard, the first reality drama T.V. series everyone is talking about, has reset their shooting schedule. Scott Shepard the Co - Producer, who incidentally is the new Lone Ranger said the series originally scheduled for the House of Blues Foundation Room, will instead be taped at C2K at the Venetian Hotel and Resort.

25 Guest stars per week will have their chance to act with 4 to 7 celebrities. You can be sure there will be a lot of bloopers in the series. That is what reality television brings to the table. Darlene Vogel, Michael Storm, Krista Tesreau, Ilene Kristen, Kristoff St. John, Ty Treadway, and Tom Hallick are few of the soap stars who will be sharing the spotlight with aspiring actors. For more information call 1- 866-soap-fan or log onto www.soapfantasy.tv.

A congratulations goes to Tony Sacca, the producer and host of Entertainment Las Vegas Style for receiving the Key to the City from Mayor Oscar Goodman. Mr. Sacca has been a part of promoting Las Vegas though his show for over 15 years. ELV airs on the ABC affiliate, KTBV Channel 13 at 12:30 A.M. on Saturdays.

NATPE (National Association of Television Producers and Executives) had a lower attendance then last year. Approximately 9600 people attended the 4 day event. Last year the attendance was 13,913. That's 31% more attendee's then this year. During the convention I met up with John Astor of the Astor Corporation. During our conversation the name of John Walsh came up. Walsh who hosts Fox's America's Most Wanted after 15 years on the air has caught 695 fugitives while bringing 25 kidnapped children home alive. I wonder if America's Most Wanted will catch Usama Bin Laden next.

Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra likes her busy schedule. The young actress helps host the Ultimate Fighting Championships held here in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand and throughout the country. According to Electra it's a fun job that takes her away from the serious part of acting in motion pictures.

The late Anthony Quinn was more then an actor, artist, and humanitarian. He was the philosopher of life. Mr. Quinn believed in helping the less unfortunate then you and me.He was a passionate man. One particular story Mr. Quinn shared with me was his relationship with Benjamin Segal. Segal was credited with building the Flamingo Hotel and Casino, the first strip hotel in Las Vegas. During those years Anthony Quinn would visit the hotel and happen to meet up with Mr. Segal's girlfriend. When Mr. Segal found out, he had his associates bring Mr. Quinn to his office. Under normal circumstances Quinn would not be around to tell this story, but because of his wonderful zest of life he became friends with Mr. Segal.

"Benjamin as he liked to be called and I , would hit the penny ante slots. Ben would yell out "I am a winner", when he would hit the penny jackpot. It was a wonderful time during though days " stated Quinn. My last conversation with Anthony Quinn was at the Resort at Summerlin which is now the Marriott.
